Low & No Poo Special Treatments

Low Poo and No Poo are hair care techniques that aim to eliminate the use of products containing sulphates, petrolatums, mineral oils, silicones and paraffins.

Discover Avani Professional products adapted to Low Poo and No Poo.

We suggest you start with Low Poo products so that your hair can get used to the technique. The No Poo technique completely eliminates shampoo, so going through the intermediate phase is ideal for giving your hair a smoother (and more successful!) transition.

This technique can be used for all hair types and is especially beneficial for curly and coily hair, as it is more fragile and difficult to nourish.

Which substances are harmful to hair?

Petrolatums, which can usually be found in conditioners, masks and styling creams;

They form a film around the hair shaft, preventing it from losing moisture and at the same time preventing the penetration of vitamins and amino acids that are essential to the health of the hair;

They work like make-up on the hair, temporarily making it shinier and prettier, but they don’t moisturize it and don’t offer any kind of treatment;

Petrolatums have to be eliminated by sulphates, so as well as not treating the hair, they force you to use something more aggressive afterwards to deeply cleanse the hair, drying it out even more, in a harmful vicious cycle.

No Poo

No = No Poo = Shampoo

Abolish shampoo for good and wash your hair with a so-called co-wash, a conditioner that washes out.

Why should we avoid sulfates in shampoo?

Sulphates are proven to be very aggressive to the hair and have a progressive damaging and dehydrating effect;

Sulphates are very strong detergents used to clean the hair and are present in many shampoos;

When we use leave-in (without rinsing) or other products with petrolatums, they create a film around the hair and then when we use shampoos with sulphates, they break the film and along with it the natural protection of the hair; then, as we feel our hair is dehydrated, we put the products with petrolatums back in and in this cyclical way we damage the hair more and more.

Low Poo

The Low Poo technique consists of choosing hair products without petrolatums and with reduced sulphates. By removing these formulas from your routine, you are eliminating strong, abrasive ingredients that strip your hair of its natural oils, compromising its integrity.

Choosing products that are suitable for the Low Poo technique will give you healthier, more beautiful hair in the long run.

How can petrolatums be harmful to hair?

Petrolatums, which are usually present in conditioners, masks and styling creams.

Petrolatums form a film around the hair, preventing it from losing its moisture. However, they also prevent the penetration of vitamins and amino acids that are essential for healthy hair.

They work like make-up, temporarily giving the hair a prettier, shinier look – but this doesn’t mean that they actually benefit the hair. In essence, petrolatums hide the problem, rather than solving it.

Petrolatums have to be eliminated by sulphates, which means that as well as not caring for the hair, they require more aggressive washing, which in the long term can compromise the integrity of hair health.

NO POO

The No Poo technique consists of eliminating the use of shampoo from the hair routine. Instead of shampoo, a co-wash is used, a conditioner whose formula is able to wash the hair effectively.

There are drier and more sensitive types of hair that need even more delicate cleansing than with the shampoos allowed in the Low Poo technique. This is the case with curly and frizzy hair, which, due to its “s” or “z” shape, makes it difficult for natural oils to reach the roots and ends, and is therefore more sensitive.

Why should we avoid sulphates in shampoo?

Sulphates are proven to be aggressive to hair, especially when used continuously.

Normally present in most shampoos, sulphates are stronger detergents used to deep clean hair.

Products containing petrolatum create a film around the hair that needs to be removed in order to absorb the vitamins and nutrients that are essential for the hair’s well-being. To do this, a shampoo with sulphates is used, which, by eliminating the film, also compromises the natural protection of the hair. By compromising this protection, the hair tends to dehydrate and consequently there will be a need to reapply products with petrolatums, creating a vicious cycle that is detrimental to hair health.
